Pricing
How pricing works
A repair is priced to the house. This page names what moves the number; the written number carries the amounts.
What decides the price
The things that change the number from one house to the next.
The part, and whether the maker still sells it
What heats the house: furnace, hot-water boiler or steam
Access in the basement
The condition of the vent and the chimney
The time of day
What the written number includes
What we found, the part by name, the labor, and any permit.
What the part and the labor are covered for, and for how long
How long the number holds
Not included unless it's listed: a new flue liner, a boiler replacement, masonry
It comes on paper, or texted to you if you prefer
You can take it to another company
What happens at the visit
We take the readings, find the problem, and give you the number before we start.
The visit fee covers the trip, the readings and the diagnosis
If you say no to the repair, you pay the visit fee and nothing else
If you say yes, the visit fee is part of the repair, and the written number says how
After hours
From October 15 to April 15 a technician answers the no-heat line after hours.
The after-hours visit fee is higher than a weekday one
We tell you the number on the phone before we dispatch
We decide with you whether the night can wait
Questions
About the number
Will I get a price over the phone?
The visit fee, yes. The repair can't be priced until someone has seen the unit, so that number comes in writing at the house.
Can I compare your number with another company's?
Yes. It lists the part by name and says what is and isn't included, so you can put two papers side by side.
How long does the number hold?
The date it ends is printed on it.
Ready for the visit?
Tell us what the heat is doing, and we will give you the visit fee on the phone.
Weekdays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. After hours from October 15 to April 15.
